Welcome to "SocialConservatives.ca," a site that has as its purpose defining and finding ways to defend, conserve, and restore the best of Canada's social heritage.This site has a number of essays, which we hope you will find of interest. Preceding the essays are topics for general comments. We hope you will respond with thoughtful remarks on these comments, and feel free to comment on the essays also.
Comments may be edited for brevity or good taste, or removed, as seems necessary to the editor. Lively but civil discussion and varying viewpoints are encouraged.
Introduction
What is a social conservative? Surely in the Canadian context it means one who regards as still valuable the ideals that have traditionally been regarded as central to the welfare of our society. Those who are socially conservative in Canada might be regarded as radical were they to promote their ideas in another society, such as Saudi Arabia. It makes no sense to commit to social conservatism out of a belief that whatever is past is best. It makes a great deal of sense to commit to it out of conviction that we have had in our heritage traditional ideals which are still valuable and which can be implemented in our present-day society. Social conservatism needs to be distinguished from mere fiscal conservatism. Social converatism will deplore the waste of public financial resources, but it will not make the achievement of national wealth an aim to be divorced from the goal of enabling that wealth to benefit the people as a whole. The term "social conservative" might be used for one who holds to particular ideals but has no concept of promoting them in society at large. But on this website we are concerned primarily with those who see social conservatism as something which needs to be supported for the benefit of society as a whole. Thus we are concerned with the role of government, which is capable of either supporting or undermining the foundations on which society has been built.
Unfortunately, those who have wished to eliminate certain foundational concepts which are part of our heritage have sought to change them, often, not so much by argument as by manipulative propaganda. This propaganda has persuaded many people that those traditional ideals are no longer of value to our nation. The success of these propagandists has had a lot to do with the fact that Canada has become a place where many politicians see as suicidal the public defence of the most basic principles of morality.Politics, it has been said, is the art of the possible. Politicians are basically concerned with how much it is possible for them to accomplish. Some politicians, once elected, do little more than test the current winds of public opinion and cast their votes in parliament accordingly. Others act as leaders, and help to form public opinion. But in any case, the success of the elected member of parliament is limited by the state of the public mind. The state of public opinion is determined by a host of factors, such as the messages received from the news media and from a variety of influencers. In fact, we all function to a greater or lesser degree as formers of public opinion.Those of us who are social conservatives have been inclined, often with some justification, to blame the politicians for the erosion of our societal foundations. But of course we cannot blame only the politicians, who, in a democracy, are limited in what they can achieve by the climate of public opinion that we all contribute to.If Canada is to be saved from its current plight where one after another its moral foundations are eroded and swept away, those who are capable of inflencing public opinion must make the most of the means at hand to do so on behalf of the ideals of our social heritage. This brings us to the purpose of this website. We hope that this site may be part of the beginning of a campaign to promote social conservatism in Canada. If the public can be brought to see that the welfare of our country depends on the restoration of basic moral principles, then our political leaders will have the ability to restore the health of our nation. We do not seek to establish some sort of theocracy, where an elite group of people dictate the details of personal lives. Rather we would like to see established a country which will honor principles that have been recognized over the centuries by people of many faiths. A nation whose people have that respect for those basic principles can be expected to choose leaders who will exercise the power of government in a way that supports those principles. I am from NZ and I was wondering if you could tell me if there are any leftwing/socialist MPs in Canada who are also social conservatives?
The federal socialist party, unfortunately, is now very much identified with particular causes: positions which in many cases would be the opposite of the socialist movement's founders. One member of the New Democratic (socialist) Party in the last parliament opposed homosexual "marriage" in opposition to her party's position, and was dropped from caucus and was not a candidate for the party in the election that followed the dissolution of the house. British Columbia New Democratic Members of the Legislature are frequently associated with radical causes, as are New Democratic members of legislators in other provinces, perhaps to a lesser degree. Your question is a good one, because there are many socially conservative positions which could consistently be held by those who are socialistic in some of their views.
I'm a young indo-canadian who has come to understand himself as a fellow conservative. There alot of variations of conservatism, but identify myself as a social conservative (to some degree culturally conservative. I believe in the concept that god only helps those who helps themselves. I would like to have greater dialogue with conservatives who are caucasian, indo-cdn, and chinese cdn. there is a growing need for conservativism in our society.
Welcome aboard, Rick. One of the encouraging signs in Canada (and we do need encouragement!) is the growing evidence that many people whose forebears did not come from Europe support the basic principles which were taken for granted as the basis of our society.
Dear Fellow-Canadian,
I have been pressing the issue discussed below since last year. I have no personal axe to grind, save that I am a writer, not yet famous, who likes to get the facts straight. Having tried in vain to enlist the help of my M.P., Mr. Gary Schellenberger, who tells me he has better things to do than check out a cover-up on high treason, I am sharing the problem with you.
The Herbert Norman case shook Canada fifty years ago, but it is surely not closed. Lester Pearson himself was intimately involved, as a patron of the man who suicided before his role was examined thoroughly. His part in the affair has never been adequately exposed.
Since Mr. Schellenberger has declared, after some considerable delay, and presumably consultation with others, that he is too busy to take up this unsolved treason case, I am circulating this summary of events in the hope that somebody else with influence will pursue it.
I have to say that, until I read Professor Barros’ book last year, I knew nothing of the case except the vaguest details, but what he wrote about the cover-up shocked me into starting this latest enquiry.
Quote from No Sense of Evil, by James Barros, second edition, published in Canada by Random House, 1987, with assistance from the Canada Council and Ontario Arts Council.
“On November 4, 1986, about a month after this book appeared in Canada, Dr. Alex Kindy, the Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament from Calgary East, got up in the House of Commons to ask the Solicitor General certain questions related to the Norman case.
Among other things, he wanted to know whether the Solicitor General knew the identity of the employee of the National Council for Canadian Soviet Friendship whom the RCMP had described as a rabid and dangerous communist. Also, was the Solicitor General aware of the fact that Norman had attempted to recruit former Secretary of the Cabinet Robert Bryce into the Communist Party when both were students at Cambridge University?
He pointed out that, although Bryce had known in the autumn of 1950 that Norman was being questioned at External Affairs as a possible Russian penetration agent, he never divulged that information to the RCMP. If that was so, did the Minister intend to inquire why such information was withheld from the Force?
Dr Kindy was looking for oral answers to written questions which under House of Commons rules must be given within 45 calendar days. The allotted day came and went but the Solicitor General chose to ignore the ruling, and, by remaining silent, technically was in contempt of the House. He may have thought that by saying nothing, the whole matter would vanish, like a bad dream. He also may have felt that Dr. Kindy had merely been pressured by a constituent to pose questions without having a personal interest in the subject. If that were the case, he certainly would not insist on a reply.
However, the Solicitor General made a serious mistake for Dr. Kindy rose again in the House of Commons on December 19, 1986. This time he wanted the Solicitor General to respond on a point of order. The government spokesman assured him that an answer was being prepared and would be given in January 1987, when the House would reconvene after the December recess.
On Jnauary20, the government provided what can be considered a non-answer, by informing Dr. Kindy and the House that it wished ‘neither to confirm nor deny the facts or allegations mentioned in these questions, based on the established tradition adhered to by all governments, not to comment publicly on the details of specific security matters’ and consistent with the provisions of the Access to Information Act.
Since 1951, at the earliest and certainly as late as 1957, successive Canadian governments were morally obligated to clear Herbert Norman’s name and reputation from the taint of involvement in Russian espionage activities. As the government refused to issue any denials, Dr. Kindy’s questions were heaven-sent to remove, once and for all, any doubts held by some about Norman’s loyalty to his country.
Why the refusal in this particular instance? Over the years, following the Norman case, Canadian governments were not averse to discuss ‘security matters’ in the House of Commons. Indeed, they did not hesitate to talk about the Gerda Munsinger case and that of George Victor Spencer, both mentioned in this study. Setting up a Royal Commission of Inquiry to look into the indiscretions and faults of the RCMP Security Service is further proof of their willingness to bring such matters into the open.
The government’s refusal to answer Dr. Kindy’s written questions left many uneasy and dissatisfied. This was clearly reflected in an exchange that took place on March 17,1987, in the House Standing Committee on Justice and the Solicitor General between Allan Lawrence, the Progressive Conservative member for Northumberland and a former Solicitor General, and the Minister of Justice, Ray J Hnatyshyn. On that occasion, Mr. Lawrence observed, “We have been quite concerned about the reluctance of the government to release information regarding” Norman’s death. After so many years, “why in heaven’s name, are the public and the members of the House of Commons denied access to this information?”
The Minister replied that he wished he had an answer but he did not. Neither was he sure that he had direct ministerial responsibility for the matter but out of respect for Alex Kindy and Allan Lawrence, he would attempt to acquire what information he could and convey it to both of them.

Meanwhile, to save my typing fingers, the Toronto Star had taken an interest, been refused answers it wanted ( and was entitled to under the Access to Information Act ) from the CSIS, and gone to the Commissioner of Information, who asked the same poor old Solicitor General to instruct the security service to comply with the law.

When the Solicitor General refused to do so, the Commissioner of Information asked the Toronto Star to pursue the matter in the courts. She informed the paper that, according to one of the statutes in the Access to Information Act, she could provide necessary funds to pay its legal costs in the litigation against the Solicitor General.
The Government, in its desire to stonewall responses to the Norman question and to cover up its protruding warts, had mounted a spectacle in which one of its officers (the Commissioner of Information) would provide public money to a newspaper so that it could sue the Solicitor General. Why would it go to such extraordinary lengths to deny its electorate access to information that, in some respects, is more than thirty years old?
On April 10, 1987, Dr. Kindy rose again in the House, this time to put a question to Joe Clark, the Secretary of State for External Affair. Pointing out that the government’s stance on the Norman case was contrary to the spirit of the Access to Information Act, he asked. “ Could the Secretary of State reveal what is behind the cover-up? Why is Canada still protecting a former mole of the KGB?”
There are “no skeletons in the closet,” Clark unctuously replied, suggesting to Dr. Kindy “not to pursue skeletons that do not exist.” He added, “it would be unnecessary and unworthy to raise 30 year old questions here in the house.”
Coming from so important a minister, the response, no doubt based on bad advice, was inadequate as it failed to answer the queries Dr. Kindy had initiated several months before. To deem raising the Norman question ‘unnecessary and unworthy’ even after thirty years, is invalid on two counts.:first, even after forty years, the government, rightly, seems to have no compunction to bring up the issue of war crimes committed elsewhere. Is espionage against Canada a less serious crime? Second, the crucial remaining issue that Clark failed to grasp in the Norman case is simply this: If the security system in use between 1950 and 1957 has been improved, is the present system better equipped to prevent repetition of the deferential and preferential treatment Norman had received?

I might add that there is also a value in truth for its own sake, a fact that often escapes governments. I have no idea if Professor Barros is still alive – I emailed his university but they never replied - but his work deserves to be honored.
Whose names are being kept quiet, and why? Why is my M.P., Mr. Schellenberger, too busy to submit a simple written question that his legislative assistant could write in ten minutes, that would take up the gauntlet of cover-up thrown down by Joe Clark over 25 years ago? Mr. Schellenberger is a member of the government party, which openly espouses open and honest administration. Let’s take them at their word.
Please add your voice to mine and seek all possible parliamentarian assistance in getting to the bottom of this enigma, at last.

This site allows the social-conservative perspective. Instead of just talking about the trouble with Canada we ought to come together and win some elections. Our policies will make our Municipalities,Provinces and Country a safer, more prosperous and just place to live.
What social-conservatives need is unity. I am sick and tired of the liberalization of our land. Their is no justice or clear thinking balance.
Instead of being irrelevant we ought to get active in politics and win some elections. We have the numbers and we should want to win some elections. What we need is unity!

Susanne, I'm sorry not to have posted your last comment. I must have read it too hurriedly. I thought it was addressed to Susanne and couldn't figure it out, but I guess "Susanne" was intended to identify the sender. I don't know what the difficulty in posting was, but it was temporary, and the holdup in publishing the comment when it did reach me was due to that misunderstanding.

Our BC liberal Parties and liberal judges have made an agreement with two homosexual activists, the Correns, to develope our BC public school curriculum from kindergarten to grade 12 even in spite of the fact that according to Health Canada HIV and AIDS in Canada Surveillance Report for April 2006 on page 60, we read that eighty-five percent of AIDS in Canada is in MALES WHO HAVE SEX WITH MALES ! Not healthy or normal is it ? We ought to save this Public Health Agency of Canada HIV and AIDS in Canada Surveillance Report because the liberal lobby wants to ban and censor it and keep it from the public! I have written Stephen Harper about saving it again.When the liberal-minded tried to stop it's printing before Stephen's Party helped to keep the hard copy in print.This is a great reaserch work in HIV and AIDS and I have used it since 1989.I hope they now don't cave in to the liberls,by this I mean all the liberal-minded Parties in Canada's pressure to ban the printing of this hard copy.
The citizens of B.C.were not given a vote on the liberal-minded homosexual agenda to be taught to their children in B.C. public schools as just another healthy alternative lifestyle and were ignored. This is why we have to join and elect the BC Uniy Party to have a real citizens popular democracy in BC.We ought to join in large numbers to save this genuine Social Conservative B.C.Provincial Political Party before it's to late. The " Gay bowel syndrome, " describes a well documented collection of bowel diseases that lead to a mechanical dysfunction of the lower bowel tract. However unknown to the Public because of a near total pro-homosexual popular media blackout, they include amebiasis, giardiasis, salmonellosis, shigellosis, hepatitis a and b, tuberculosis,sypilis etc. These are ENDemic to the homosexual population. IN OUR CANADA BILL C 313 TO RAISE THE AGE OF SEX CONSENT FROM 14 WAS DEFEATED 167 TO 99 on SEPTEMBER 2005 IN OUR "PARLIAMENT".
Bill C 313 was a Federal Conservative Bill and of the 94 Conservatives elected 90 voted to raise the age of sex consent 4 did not vote because 3 were very ill and 1 was the speaker of the house ,and I gave him my thoughts on his excuse eyeball to eyeball it was more than face to face! Of the rest of the liberal-minded Political Parties in our Canada only " 9 members of Parliament " voted to raise the age of sex consent 167 voted to keep it at 14 for their like thinking liberal-minded popular media,educators,citizens and judges. How MPs voted was on the Federal Government web site www.parl.gc.ca
The Federal Canadian Alliance sure cleaned up the Federal PC Conservative Party. They the Federal Conservatives are now more Conservative and not just "Liberals with the Conservative Name."

In British Columbia Canada the only Provincial Political Party that does not have liberal policies is THE BC UNITY PARTY, because of our members and our President Tom Landers. It does not matter what the other Provincial Parties call them-selves their political policies give them away as "liberal-minded."
In British Columbia and the rest of Canada Concerned Public School Teachers like Dr.Chris Kempling should not lose their jobs Because of liberal-minded Judges, Teachers College,Teachers Federation and Political Parties. A liberal society that smiles on sexual relations outside of marriage and teaches Kinsey "science"in public schools and universities undermines the institution of the family. Family breakdown contributes to increases in depression, health problems, school failure, drug use,crime and virtually every other kind of social pathology. When this happens,liberal government expands its services and we have more welfare, more crime control, more social services. As government acquires more functions,it exerts more control over its citizens. As it runs up higher operating costs, it digs deeper into your pocketbook. In short less freedom and higher taxes even legalized Government gambling with glitzy adds using public money.
This is the connection we need to help young people, and liberals to grasp rather than imposing the teaching of unhealthy lifestyle choices as just other healthy alternatives when they are not. The loss of personal virtue "ALWAYS" leads to an erosion of political, economic and civil freedom.
When people are taught in B.C.public school and university classrooms not to exercise internal controls,the cosequences of this leads government then to impose external controls, while asking all of us to foot the bill.
If we as Social Conservatives are sick and tired of all the liberal minded political parties, and their policies and impositions we ought to unite behind our own Political Party. Then we can give valid reasons to the liberal minded to change their minds because of the consequences their choices are having on our children and culture.
The news media have become the primary shapers of our thinking. The rules of journalism have changed in politically correct society.It was assumed that reporters and broadcasters would attempt to see things as the average citizen. It was also assumed that reporters would not use their positions to influence the thinking of the viewers but report objectively the facts of an event. The fact that reporters are out of step with their responsibility should be self-evident. When thousands of citizens from across Canada march to support their view for the sanctity of human life and no-one from our popular media covers the events.
All Canadian Liberal-minded goverments are interfering with their impositions in all the wrong places and inactive in the right ones. Rather than supporting death,they should support life. Rather than defend perverse behavior,they should support families. The child is unprotected,marriage is redefined,and the so-called Human rights comissions are imposing pervertion on Canadian society. The government abdicates its role as supporter of virtue and actually limits the freedoms of those who espouse it,while expanding the freedoms of those who wish to turn traditional morality on its head. We need to advocate for the reversal of these roles in order to protect freedoms for society in which laws reward virtue and protect us from the harmful effects of vice.

Such techniques as Cordocentesis even allow medical diagnosis, treatment and surgery in utero.” I finally came to the conviction that this was my patient. This was a person ! This was a change of mind as a result of Fantastic Technology.”
Dr. Nathanson fastened an Ultrasound Machine to a woman undergoing an abortion, and produced ” SILENT SCREAM”, the film horrified the nation. It showed the fetus trying desperately to move away from the vacuum, and then its body parts were successively sucked off. The film produced a massive campaign of defamation agaist Dr. Bernard Nathanson from the liberal-minded.
This only made him more determined, so he decided to show an abortion from inside the womb. He attached a camera to a Fetoscope and inserted it during a D&E abortion. The resulting film was “ECLIPSE OF REASON”.
Abortion is the murder of babies ! When will this Holocaust end in Canada ?
Our schools and universities are ” educating ” our children into Godless Darwinian Humanists and “Institutionalizing Atheism”. When will this also end in Canada
Population projections according to Statistics Canada.
Canada’s population is ageing fast and senior citizens would outnumber children in about a decade. The projections show that by 2011 seniors would account for about 25% of the total population and continue to grow.
The Question I would like to ask my fellow Canadian’s is where have all the babies gone ?
How "ironic" that Ken Georgetti president of the Canadian Labour Congress, honours Dr. Henri Morgentaler, with the Award For Outstanding Service to Humanity, for the advancement of human rights for women ! The award was presented before 2000 cheering delegates of the CLC's 25th Constitutional Convention in Toronto.
Only in Godless Politically Correct Relativist Darwinian Humanist Canada, would the Abortionist and past president of the Humanist Association of Canada, and signatory of the ” Humanist Manifesto,” be honored by The Canadian Labour Congress. I don’t understand how they could honor a person responsible for the termination of so many potential union members.
This says a lot about the morality of Humanist Canada now through our Politacally Correct Relativist Darwinian Humanist education establishments to all of society. After all we all go to school and university where we are "educated" into hard wired liberal-minded Humanist atheists.

Just ask yourself in how many ways the following are connected, overtaxing , over regulating governments, failing public schools, bad mannered foul mouthed youth who lack respect for their teachers and elders, violent criminals and solft headed parole boards who let them out to rape and kill again, violent movies, videos, music, television, radical tax funded lobby groups out to liberalize our values, and the radical political homosexual agenda who are out to destroy the family even in spite of the fact that, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada HIV and AIDS Surveillance Report for April 2006. on page 60 we read that eighty-five percent of Aids in Canada is in males who have sex with males. After all, most people who strongly dislike homosexuality do so because of decent, constuctive, family, health and community building moral principles, and not out of fear at all. It is a pathetic sign of weakness that Canadian society speaks only defensively of its values.
What we ought to be doing is joining and supporting by becomming members of political Parties that support our values . After all, the truth is that it is not that we who are homophobic, but rather the radical homosexual agenda that is heterophobic, moralphobic, healthphobic and familyphobic.
Isn't it tragic that Politically Correct Relativist judges,and politicians who say they love the idea of tolerance ultimately reveal themselves to be among the most bigoted.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada HIV and AIDS in Canada Surveillance Report for April 2006 on page 60 we read that 85 percent of AIDS in Canada in males who have sex with males.
The " Gay bowel syndrome, " describes a well documented collection of bowel diseases that lead to a mechanical dysfunction of the lower bowel tract. However unknown to the Public because of a near total pro-homosexual popular media blackout, they include amebiasis, giardiasis, salmonellosis, shigellosis, hepatitis a and b, tuberculosis,sypilis etc. These are ENDemic to the homosexual population. Sodomy is legal in Canada and the U.N.is trying to impose it worldwide. My dictionary defines sodomy as,unnatural sexual intercourse,esp.of one man with another or a human being with an animal.
The schools are allowing homosexuals to recruit children by imposing homosexuality to be taught as just another healthy alternative lifestyle when it is not just another healthy alternative lifestyle choice or normal is it ?
Not only does imposed atheism's worldview lead to the death of common sense and meaning;it also leads to the death of moral reasoning.
Canada does not have freedom of speech, and I have already spoken,putting me in a special class and at risk.
When a Christian culture turns it’s back on the laws of God who designed everything ,and goes back to paganism there are dire consequences. I am studying Edmund Burke and William Wilberforce, and these Christian politicians lived in a time when the majority of the English pretended to be christian but lived like pagans. It took them awhile to get 51% of the public, and the politicians to do the right thing and live morally and pass healthy laws. In the beginning the public, the media and the politicians would not give them enough support to pass healthy laws. Edmund and William were good at explaining to everyone the importance of passing healthy laws, and the consequences on future generations of passing unhealthy ones. It took them many years to get 51% of the citizens to agree with them. At first the hostility towards them was the same as the hostility to us. These were politicians for the people and it took a long time for the people to understand this.
Today we live in a time again when we need Social Conservative politicians like Burke and Wilberforce. I hope many will come forward and accept the call. Today many so-called coservative governments and politicians are liberals with the coservative name. We cannot let this corruption continue.
We must not forget that everyone has value even when he/she has humble means. This morality of Social Darwinism and the Humanist Manifesto now taught in our education establishments is producing a sence of alienation and meaninglessness that is the principal malady of young minds.
We are in a culture war. We cannot let the pagan education establishment make us believe their stereotype of us. Remember everone goes to school and university. Canada was a Christian country of sorts but now is almost completely pagan. Christians are stereotyped by these pagans as wimpy, lackluster, two-faced , mindless with none of the courage, beauty, goodness and intellect that christianity represents.That is why Darwin's so-called lower races got the right to vote in Canada in 1947. My Grandfather was in Canada since 1904 and only got the right to be a human being in 1947. No thanks to Darwin's theory that now is taught in our schools as the "only" creation story to live all of life by, and it is protected by the Canadian Supreme Court by blasphemy laws! When you tell people for fifty years that they are wimpy, lackluster, two-faced, mindless and gutless, sooner or later you will produce a generation of them that meet these standards. This is what our education establishments are now doing to our kids.
When I went to public school in our Canada the Ten Commandments were on schoolroom and courtroom walls and on students and citizens minds, because they were everywhere. We were not christians then and when my parents learned the Ten Commandments they were glad they came to Canada. I learned the songs I now sing in church in my public school music class.
Now is the time for us in the name of Christ to stand firm, as our children are being socially engineered to be pagans in our schools and universities. When the war is over,we will gather around the throne and share war stories. Before Darwinian Humanist atheism took over the education and thus legal establishment, and forced their beliefs of the Humanist Manifesto on everyone Christianity allowed people to believe or disbelieve without enforcement.I hope our citizens will help us win this culture war before paganism is all there is. We have another conservative government in Canada. In May of 2008 the coservative Bill to raise the age of sex consent passed by only 3 votes. This was good but we still teach the perverted Kinsey sex education in Canadian schools.This is not good for our kids. I would like to see more family friendly legislation from our governments not perversion made into Law by our supreme court justices. We must put and end to this.
